01 What it does

What the pptx-quality-gates Skill Does in Claude Code and Codex

Summary, workflow and outputs, all read from the skill's SKILL.md.

In the Skill's Own Terms

This skill defines a pre-delivery audit and repair workflow for editable PPTX decks: coordinate contracts, slide geometry, accessibility checks and OOXML package integrity. It requires evidence from the actual deck rather than treating the checklist as a guarantee.

For production decks it runs a Python validation script and saves a JSON report. When validation fails, it repairs the spec or builder, rebuilds the deck, and reruns the same checks until zero errors remain. All artifacts—spec, PPTX, build record, geometry audit, accessibility audit, package report, and source manifest—are kept together.

What it produces

  • A repaired PPTX when needed, alongside the spec and build record.
  • Geometry and accessibility audits, a production package-validation report and the source manifest.
See the example prompt ↗

How It Works

  1. 01
    Confirm File Paths and Artifacts

Before validation begins, the skill confirms the locations of the spec, builder, PPTX file, source manifest, and audit paths so all required materials are available.

  2. 02
Apply Coordinate Contract Audit Before Building

The skill applies the audit checklist from references/audit-checklist.md to the coordinate contract before the deck is built, catching geometry issues early.

  3. 03
Compare Reopened PPTX with Layout Tree

After building, the skill reopens the PPTX and compares slide count, actual bounds, hidden slides, and requested geometry against the layout tree to detect discrepancies.

  4. 04
Run Package Validation Script for Production

For production decks, the skill runs the validate_package.py script from pptx-reference-deck-analysis and saves the resulting JSON report.

  5. 05
    Check Accessibility Compliance

Check document language, slide titles, meaningful-image alt text, reading order, table headers and source references. Report checks actually performed and remaining limitations; this is not a general accessibility certification.

  6. 06
    Repair and Rebuild on Failure

When validation finds errors, the skill repairs the spec or task-local builder, rebuilds the deck, and reruns all checks until the deck passes.

02 Find your fit

When to Use the pptx-quality-gates Skill

Use the pptx-quality-gates skill in Claude Code or Codex when the job is PPT and slide decks of this kind. Fit and limits below are taken from the skill's own file.

Good Fit

  • When validating or repairing an editable PPTX deck for geometry, accessibility, native editability, source lineage, and OOXML package integrity

Know the Boundaries

  • Requires companion tools and build inputsThe full audit uses references/audit-checklist.md and, for production, pptx-reference-deck-analysis/scripts/validate_package.py. The SKILL.md alone is not a validator.
  • Visual review is conditionalInspect previews only when a compatible renderer is already available. Do not install one merely to satisfy this workflow; disclose skipped visual checks.

What to Provide

  • Deck, spec and builderSupply paths to the PPTX, layout/coordinate specification, task-local builder and build record.
  • Source and audit pathsProvide the source manifest, expected audit locations and available companion checklist/package validator.

03 Inside the skill

Rules the pptx-quality-gates Skill Gives Claude Code and Codex

7 concrete instructions, defaults and limits the SKILL.md sets for the agent — the part of the file that changes the result.

  1. Use Before Delivery

This skill must be applied before delivering any generated PPTX to ensure quality gates are met.

  2. Treat Failures as Repair Work

Deterministic validation failures are treated as repair opportunities, not exceptions to be logged and ignored.

  3. Never Add Renderer Dependencies

When inspecting previews for clipping, font fallback, contrast, crop, and hierarchy, the skill only proceeds if a compatible renderer is already available and never adds one as a new dependency.

  4. Keep All Artifacts Together

The spec, PPTX, build record, geometry audit, accessibility audit, package report, and source manifest must be maintained as a complete set.

  5. Document All Exceptions with Full Metadata

Any documented exception must include slide ID, object ID, owner, reason, and review date for traceability.

  6. Zero-tolerance Pass Criteria

The deck must have zero content collisions, text overflows, unsafe content bounds, invalid positive geometry, and package-integrity errors to pass.

  7. Preserve Native Editability

Meaningful slide content must remain as native editable objects; images are used to support content, not replace it.

Starter prompt
Audit [deck.pptx] against [spec/layout tree] and [builder], with [source manifest] and audit outputs at [directory]. Confirm the companion checklist and production package validator are available. Check geometry, native editability, source lineage and accessibility; save evidence. Repair the spec or task-local builder, rebuild and rerun failed checks. Use only an already available renderer and disclose skipped checks or blockers rather than claiming a pass.

Check the First Result

What the SKILL.md itself says a correct result looks like:

  • Compare reopened slide count, bounds, hidden slides and requested geometry with the layout tree.
  • Save the production package-validator JSON and inspect native editability plus the listed accessibility fields.
  • Inspect previews only with an already available compatible renderer, and disclose when this was not possible.
  • Keep the spec, deck, build record, audits and source manifest together; identify exceptions by slide/object, owner, reason and review date.

Questions About the pptx-quality-gates Skill

Answers come from the SKILL.md as read on 2026-09-14, not from a recorded run.

What does this skill validate in a PPTX deck?

It checks coordinate contracts and reopened slide geometry, native editability, source lineage, accessibility fields, and production OOXML package integrity through a companion validator. Its pass criteria require zero listed geometry and package errors; the page does not claim that a particular deck has passed.
